Each of the Watervliet Roman Catholic Churches kept some form of Death Register for church members, although unfortunately, these records for the most part were not kept until the twentieth century. Each church recorded slightly different information. Some have parents’ names; others simply list a family member/informant. Some include comments of note, for example, cause of death (died in childbirth or in one case, died in airplane accident).
In 2005, the Albany Diocese consolidated the six existing parishes, creating a new parish, Immaculate Heart of Mary, which now holds all “sacramental records” of the six former parishes, including Baptisms, Marriages and Communion/Confirmation. While death records were shared with us, we do not have access to any “sacramental records”. For this, you must contact the archivist at IHM parish.
