The March TIGS meeting will be on Sunday, Mar 24 1:30-3:30 at the East Greenbush Community Library, featuring a presentation by Kelly Grimaldi (Historian for the Roman Catholic Diocese Cemeteries). Her subject is “Understanding Artistic Conventions in Funerary Art and Memorials”. This presentation will focus on the correlation between the visual arts, architectural design and furniture and cemetery memorials through the ages.  It will serve to give the audience an understanding of what they are looking at when they visit a park-like rural cemetery.  The connection between the ancient world and the Gilded Age and the relationship between Europe and a new America is explained using easily understood visual comparisons of things designed by the living to memorialize the dead.
